Anthony Howe a well-known American artist continues to amaze us with his work, one of his work was about gargantuan kinetic sculptures powered by wind or motors that cycle continuously through hypnotic motions that resembles something between the elongated tactile of an octopus and an alien spacecraft.

The Dutch designer iris van herpen took this inspiration from the artist to make something out of the extraordinary creating some series of exquisite and hypnotic garments for Paris couture week.

Presented 19 dresses that moved with the wind just like the gargantuan kinetic sculptures as the models were walking on the runway wearing ancient silk moiré and dazzling techno pieces and illusionary effect of a shimmering surface. Hypnosis aims to reflect “the beauty and intricacy of our environment,” the designer said.

The show focused on the Howe’s spherical “omni verse” sculpture, with reiterating the mechanisms, with layers of feathers in periodic movements, pieces of an engineered skeleton of spirals made of aluminum, stainless steel.

If you notice the collection focuses on the environments most important things, “the symbiotic cycles of our biosphere that interweave the air, land and the oceans,” said van herpen.

‘it also reflects the ongoing dissection of the rhythms of life and resonates with the fragility within these interwoven worlds.’

The designer focused on the ‘dichotomy’ looks, which is heat bonded and laser cuts the positive waves. With hand stitched silk, flowing the sculpt in an exquisite manner.

According to the studio, Anthony Howe’s sculpture aims to represent “universal life cycle”, which is an exploration of humans’ relationship with nature.
