Artists for caregivers: How Art comes to the rescue in crisis

Established in Paris and founded in 1996, The French auction house, Piasa organizes around sixty auctions in the fields of Modern and Contemporary Art, jewelry, art of Asia, old drawings and paintings, books and manuscripts, artworks, photographs and high period furniture.

Recently, Piasa conducted an online charity sale of Contemporary art and design which took place from the evening of 3rd April, 2020 to the evening of 5th April, 2020. The charity auction was in support of the COVID-19 front-liners in France.

The online catalog has over 360 lots of paintings, photographs, design pieces and furniture on sale. They have been donated by designers, artists and galleries including Levy Gorvy, Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac, Kamel Mennour, Almine Rech and Galerie Eric Dupont. Works by Charlotte Perriand, Tatiana Trouve, Pierre et Gilles, Jeff Koons and Andres Segovia are also part of the sale.

The real estate entrepreneur and president of Piasa, Laurent Dumas is spearheading the sale and is also a #protègetonsoignant (Protect your caregiver).

An article published by The Art Newspaper said that all proceeds will be used to purchase the much-needed personal protective equipment such as face masks and gloves for doctors, nurses as well as caregivers alongside the buying of crucial medical equipment such as respirators. The money raised will also be for buying food, microwaves, coffee machines and other essentials for caregivers.
