The irony of the fashion world

The Neon Demon

“The neon demon” stars Elle Fanning as Jesse (Fanning) is the 16-year-old ingenue (“when someone asks, she says 19”), Karl Glusman as dean, Jena Malone as ruby, Bella Heathcote as Gigi, Keanu Reeves as hank and Abbey Lee as Sarah.

Jesse, who’s a novice aspiring model in Los Angeles, a verge of being consumed by their dream. A vain shy woman who doesn’t really know what this fashion world is really about, but the panel gets convinced by the simplicity and new comer or the new face that they wanted in, little did they know she is dangerous and timid as other around make her feel, she is in her own unromantic fairytale. Jesse has been told that she is a natural talent, she received a lot of praise, good enough to be signed by a top fashion agency at the age of 16.

A transformation from a light beauty, who dreams about an open night sky, ah! she knows she is wanted.

Argentinian cinematographer Natasha Braier, showed us some mad skills of cinematography with perfect lightings, to the perfect place for locations in LA. Jesse’s funhouse mirror reflections scenes are one breathtaking moments, where you just get lost by looking at it.

The director said, “I think a lot of people don’t get, and definitely a lot of people didn’t get ‘Neon Demon,’” Braier told Film Stage. “It was quite disappointing, because we were very proud of the process and it was sad to see. In Europe, it was seen as a masterpiece. In America, they didn’t say, ‘I didn’t get it,’ they said, ‘I didn’t like it.” [Nicolas Winding Refn]

The starting of it makes us confuse as Elle fanning stands there with electric blue dress as drenched in crimson blood, a crime scene or a fashion shoot?
